How do I apply to Gloucestershire Homeseeker?

  • Go to the page called New Household Registration Form by clicking on the link.
  • You must first complete the details of the main household applicant (this could be you), then click 'Submit application'.
  • When you submit this first page, you will be given your unique reference number - make a note of it as you will need it everytime you log in.
  • Then click on 'Apply for social housing' to complete your full application.
  • When you submit your full application, a page will appear stating “Registration Complete”.
  • The system will allow you to save your application form or print it.  If you have provided an email address, you will receive an email from us with a copy of your application form attached as a PDF file.

You will not be able to continue onto further pages until all information on the page has been provided.  It is therefore important that you have all the information for you and your household, before you start your application. What information will I have to give you?

What is the eligibility criteria?

This is a list of requirements that the applicant must meet to be eligible to be considered for the vacant property.  Criteria will indicate who may be eligible to bid for the property. Examples include:

  • eligibility for social housing, inlcuding age restrictions, persons from abroad through immigration rules and regulations (see FAQ Who cannot apply?)
  • local connection to the area
  • minimum or maximum bedroom requirement
  • property adaptations.

If you do not meet the criteria of a property, you will be told in the online advert - example.

My PIN doesn't seem to work

  1. If the PIN is still set at default (the date of birth of the main applicant), make sure that you are entering the right persons date of birth.  For example, if you have a joint application the date of birth will the that of the main applicant.
  2. Make sure you enter the PIN in the right format e.g. 1st January 1980 would be 01/01/1980.
Remember the forward slash (/) between date, month and year, and remember to enter 2 figures for the date, 2 for the month and 4 for the year.

If your PIN still doesn't work, or you cannot log in for any other reason, please speak to your local council housing team.

Does it matter that I don't have an email address?

It is not necessary for you to have an email address, we will write to you or call you as necessary.  You can still apply, bid and view properties without an email address.

If you do have an email address this is the quickest way we can get information to you.  When you complete your application form, instead of having to print it off or save it to a disk, the system will automatically email you a copy of the application form (in PDF format) to the email address you have provided.  The email will come from support@gloshomeseeker.co.uk (you cannot respond to this email) and it will say:

"Thank you for submitting your application online.
Your application will be checked by a member of staff and you should receive a letter confirming your details within 3-4 weeks.
Please find attached a copy of your application to keep for your records."

NOTE: If you provide an email address that you share with someone else, remember that they may view your application form when it is sent to you.  You may want to set up your own email address from a number of popular free email providers such as HotmailYahooGoogleMailAOL.

How will you contact me?

If you have provided an email address, we will normally use this to contact you.

  • By using e-mail we ensure that you get notification as soon as possible and it will not get lost in the post.
  • It also makes it easy for you to save important documents where you can find them again if needed.
  • Email also reduces the running costs and is better for the environment than printing and posting letters.

If you do not have an email address we will write to you or contact you by telephone.

What does the effective date mean?

This is the date that is used to calculate the length of time you have been waiting on the Housing Register.  Generally this will be the same date that your application is made.  If your circumstances change and you go up a band, the effective date will be the date that you moved up into that band.  If you move down a band then the effective date will become the same as the original date again.

Are there any financial limits preventing me joining Gloucestershire Homeseeker?

If it appears that you may have the financial means to resolve your housing need, you will be encouraged to do so. Your local Housing Advice/Options Team can give you more information about this.

Yes.  The steps you will need to take are:

  1. You will need to use your original Homeseeker application number and PIN to sign back in to your account.
  2. Change your application, putting in your new details.
  3. You will be written to again to confirm your new band for your needs.  This is unlikely to be the same band as you were on before.

If you think you need to come back onto Gloucestershire Homeseeker you may want to contact your local council housing team first to discuss your housing options.
